Heya Char! Thanks so much for replying. Let's see how brief I can keep this! lol
I do find it frustrating when a fic contains a really good concept, but the author just hasn't been able to convey it. Although I think the bigger problem in the MD fandom is the lack of fresh, new ideas. I don't have a problem with the same pairings being used (some are getting *very* tired though), it's just when they are placed in identical scenarios, I start to become annoyed. Fan fiction is supposed to promote individuality- to provide freedom to take on existing characters and place them in imaginative situations. Instead, mundaneness and monotony have become associated with a lot of MD stories. That's not to say there aren't some fabulous ones out there, because- my god- there are some talented writers in our fandom. Those people make me proud- not only as a Duck fan, but a writer as well.
Exactly! I look back at the photos of what I was wearing at that age. My goodness. I certainly wasn't prancing around in halter necks! I was out there in my parachute material tracksuits! (*cringes* How the bash brothers managed to still look attractive in their team USA ones, I'll never know). I don't know whether it's a country thing or whether I just wasn't a particularly confident child, but I never had the urge to be wearing such revealing clothing! All I was interested in when I was young was getting out there in the bush and making cubbies with my neighbours! So gumboots and trackies were common choices for attire!
I've seen the ads for Brainiac... that was enough for me.
Eeek. That RPG sounds pretty darn terrible. Awww. I hope it hasn't *completely* ruined your love for the movies. That would be the worst thing. =( That's why I've tried to steer clear of a lot of the terrible fics with poor depictions of characters. I just try and accept that they are just one person's personal take on the characters and I separate the fic world from the actual movies.
I definitely know what you mean by chic lit now. I hate women being depicted in such a narrow-minded way. You're so right- it always starts with them being fired! Don't be ashamed of your Babysitters Club either! I'm definitely guilty of pulling out the old favourites quite often. There's just something really comforting about reading through the books we read growing up, don't you think? They just bring back old memories and you know they're always going to be 'reliable' (if that makes sense.) I feel that way about all my old Fear Streets and Point Fictions. My cupboard is still jam-packed with them and if ever I find new ones in second hand stores, I can never resist.
I completely relate to your worries of the future. I only have on year left of study, but after that I have no idea. It's such a scary thing. We just have to keep reminding ourselves that we are bright, intelligent, awesome young women who will find our way in the world!
I think I wrote something about American Psycho in my letter ages ago, but I can't remember what I told you. I've seen the movie and thought it was really disturbing, but funny as well. For some reason that character made me laugh with his obsessive talk. Christian Bale did such an awesome job. I'm not sure if I could handle the book. I know it's supposed to be much more graphic than the movie. I would be interested to read a bit though- just to see the style it was written in. Was it in first person?
Oh I swear there's always been something on between Lou and Harold! I first noticed last year when there was all that tension between that male hairdresser and those two. What was his name? Geno? I can't remember. Funny stuff though.
I still haven't seen Six Feet Under. I will definitely have to soon.
